Leroy J. Schmitt, 82, passed away at his residence in Fort Branch, Monday Nov. 3, 2014.

Leroy was born to the late Henry V. and Theresa (Weis) Schmitt on May 14, 1932.

Besides his parents Leroy is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Norman and Richard Schmitt. Leroy was an Insurance Agent with Prudential Insurance Co., a Past Grand Knight of the K of C in Haubstadt, IN , Past Commander of the American Legion Post 194 in Haubstadt IN., a member of the Princeton Eagles, Evansville Owls and Knights of St. John in Haubstadt.

Surviving Leroy are his wife of 62 years, Phyllis (Gray) Schmitt of Fort Branch, Sons and daughters; Steve (Laura) Schmitt of Haubstadt, IN, Lisa (Stan) May of Fort Branch, IN, Deven (Lucy) Schmitt of Long Valley NJ, and Brenda (Jim) Helfrich of Haubstadt, IN. Sisters Florentine Wittman of Scottsdale AZ, and Bertha Robling of Evansville IN. Grandchildren: Andrea (Jeff) Church, Ashley Schmitt, Corey May, Clint (Renee) May, Cynthia May, Rachel Schmitt, Brian Helfrich, Cassie (Sam) Schmitz, and Barry (Monica) Helfrich. Great Grandchildren: Emma and Averie Church, Evan and Carter Helfrich and Hannah and Allison Schmitz.

A mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday Nov. 6, 2014 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Church in Fort Branch with co-celebrants Fr. Tony Ernst and Fr. Sukahar Bhasti officiating. Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #194 at Holy Cross Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday Nov. 5 2014 at the Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN and again from 9:00 to service time at the church on Thursday.
