Henry A. Schleter, 73, of
Fort Branch passed away Monday November 3, 2014 at River Oaks Health Campus in
Princeton, IN.
He was born on May 15, 1941 near Francisco, Indiana to
the late Wilfred and Dona Schleter.
Henry grew up on his family’s farm near Francisco and
graduated from Francisco High School in 1959. He received his BS Degree in
education for math, chemistry, and physics at Oakland City College in 1963 and
his MS Degree in math at Indiana State University in 1964. Later he also took
additional courses at Purdue University and University of Evansville.
During 1963-1975, he instructed a few college courses
at Indiana State University, Oakland City College, and University of
Evansville. He also taught at Owensville and Heritage Hills High Schools. In 1975,
he started his 28 year long teaching career at
Tecumseh Jr. /Sr. High School, teaching math, physics, chemistry, advanced
chemistry, calculus and computer programming. He retired in 2002.
In addition to teaching, Henry was a crop farmer. His
favorite hobby was restoring and showing antique tractors, particularly John
Deere and Ford. He was a member of the Gibson County Antique Machinery
Association and the Two Cylinder Club. He was a 10 year 4-H member, went on to
be a 4-H leader of a Francisco club for many years, and thoroughly enjoyed the
Gibson County Fair. He also enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing with his
family.
Henry was a member of the Fort Branch General Baptist
Church and more recently had attended Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents Wilfred and
Dona Schleter, brother
Gerald Schleter, and brother and sister-in-law Lewis
and Irene Schleter.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Karen (Scales) Schleter; son Ed (Beth) Schleter
of Fort Branch; daughter Stephanie (Brian) Oxley of Tennyson; grandchildren
Evan and Emma Schleter; Brayden and Adler Oxley;
sister-in-law Nita (Davidson) Schleter; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday
November 7, 2014 at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort
Branch, IN with Pastor Kevin Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Maple
Hill Cemetery in Princeton, IN.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday,
Nov. 6,2014 at Stodghill
Funeral Home.
