Health Campus in Princeton, Indiana.
He was born on June 3,1922
in Fort Branch, Indiana to the late Conrad and Christina (Emge)
Elpers.
He was a 1940 graduate of Fort Branch High School
and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He was a World War
II Air Force Veteran serving as a pilot and flight instructor.
He retired after 50 years from Emge
Meat Packing Company, having served as
Vice-President/Treasurer. He held past directorships in Farmers and Merchants
Bank and Princeton Telephone Company.
He was a founding member of Holy Cross Catholic
Church, serving as trustee and secretery/treasurer of
Holy Cross Cemetery since its enception in 1947. He
and his wife are recipients of the 2014 Brute award.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Doris (McCleary) Elpers, daughters
Pamela (James) Betz of Fort Branch, Indiana, Karen (Edward) Spartz
of Montgomery,Texas and
Nancy (Byron) Berry of League City, Texas.
Grandchildren Scott Betz of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Katherine (Steve)
Jones of Evansville, Indiana, Jessica (Brad) Bohrer
of Zionsville, Indiana, Claire (Jeremy) Tempel of
Bloomington, Indiana, Allison (Kent) Moore of Carmel, Indiana, Dr. Bradley
(Jen) Spartz of The Woodlands, Texas and step-grandson
Matthew (Jennifer) Berry of Raleigh, North Carolina. Great-grandchildren Will and Kate Betz,
Shelby, Cameron and Caroline Jones, Max, Evan, Jack and Blake Bohrer, Veronica and Jerome Tempel,
Kaelan, Jacob and Lucas Moore, Sydney and Elaine Spartz and Grant Berry.
Robert was preceeded in
death by his parents, brothers Roger Elpers and
Donald Elpers and sister Eileen Carter.
Visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday September
12, 2014 at Stodghill Funeral Home, Fort Branch and
again from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the funeral home.
Services 11:00 am CDT Saturday September 13, 2014 at
Holy Cross Church, 202 S. Church Street, Fort Branch
with Fr. Anthony Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross
Cemetery.
