Melvin George Compton Sr., 85, of Owensville passed
away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at his home in Owensville. He had lived
in Owensville for the last 9 years coming from Cedar Lake, IN.
He was born on October 11, 1928 in Rockville, IN to
Leonard D. Compton and Nora E (Smoot) Compton Lovell.
He was a steel worker with J&L Steel and had
worked at the Railroad Tie Plant in Terre Haute.
He is survived by his children, Theresa (Jerry) Johnson of Platesmouth,
NE, Donald (Dena) Compton of Owensville, Melvin (Linda) Compton Jr of Radcliff,
KY, Mike (Carla) Compton of Parson, KS and Randy Compton (Mary) of Wheatfield,
IN; 19 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild;
brother, Elmer “Jake” Compton of West Terre Haute, IN; and several other family
members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 wives, Winona, Mazie
and Donna; and 2 children, Terry Joe and George Compton.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 pm on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Colvin
Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by Donald Compton. Visitation will be
from 4 until 7 pm on Friday evening at the funeral home. Graveside services
will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 12 noon at the Calumet Cemetery
in Merrillville, Indiana.
