Coach Kenneth L. Sharp, 84, passed away Thursday
evening Aug. 14, 2014 at he residence surrounded by
his family.
He was born May 25, 1930 in Gibson County the son of
Berl Thomas and Zelma Beatrice (McReynolds) Sharp.
Kenny was a graduate of Owensville High School Class
of 1948, served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean
War. Attended several colleges and university attaining a Masters
degree in Education, he taught at Owensville High School and South Gibson
School Corporation from 1955-1992. Kenny was varsity basketball coach in 1962,
66, 67 and 68, varsity baseball coach from 1956-1974.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of
Owensville, founder of the Owensville Alumni Association, curator of the
Owensville Kickapoo Museum and founder of M-Pac in 1975. Put together five
books, 1. Kickapoo 1920-1974, for the 1974 All Sports Banquet, 2. The Kickapoo
Wigwam, for the 1995 Alumni Banquet, 3. The History of Owensville Schools, for
the 2001 Alumni Banquet, 4. Our Town, Owensville, IN for the 2003 Alumni
Banquet, 5. Our Town, Owensville, IN for the 2005 Alumni Banquet. He was Grand
Marshall in the Watermelon Festival parade in 1992, and the recipient of the
Life Time Achievement Award in 1999.
Kenny is survived by his wife of 62 years,
Billie (Smith) Sharp; daughters, Debbie (Charles) Mair
and Terri (Chris) Baker; four grandchildren, Matt (Lori) Corne,
Ashley Mair Davis (Brad), Lindsay Corne
Ping (Adam) and McKenzie Mair; eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and only
brother, Encil Sharp.
Services will be held on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 at 10
a.m. at Holders Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Owensville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 17, from 3-7
p.m. at the REH Center and again from 9 a.m. until the service time at the
funeral home on Monday.
