Mildred Ruth (Shelton) Skelton went home to be with
her Lord on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. She was 98 years old and had been a
resident of Newburgh Healthcare Center in Newburgh, Indiana for two years.
She was born on February 17, 1916, in Princeton, Indiana. She was the daughter
of William and Flora (Brainard) Shelton.
She married Adrian M. Skelton, a retired coal miner,
they shared 65 years together before Adrian's death in 1999. They had two sons,
Vaughn and Don.
Mildred was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed her family, working with her flowers,
feeding the birds, doing ceramics, taking care of her cat, enjoyed being a TOPS
member, traveling, Canadian fishing and hunting trips, and having large family
dinners. Mildred was a long time member of the Mackey Salem United Methodist
Church. In January 2003, she moved to Evansville, Indiana, to live with her son
and daughter-in-law. She attended McCutchanville
Community Church while in Evansville.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Adrian, her older son,
Vaughn, granddaughter, Mary Catherine (Cathy) Skelton, a great-grandson.
Matt Byerly, two sisters, Joyce Wilderman
and Marguerite Wilmarth, and four brothers, Robert,
Eugene, George and William Shelton.
Mildred is survived by her son, Don (Janice) Skelton, daughter-in-law,
Charlotte Skelton, grandchildren, Theresa (Richard) Harvey, David (Linda)
Skelton, Scott (Debbie Wolf) Skelton, and Misty (Phil) Bryant. Also surviving
are great-grandchildren, Kenneth (Tiffany) Harvey, Andrew Harvey, Rachel
(Robert) Segal, Leah (Troy) Moody, Taylor and Avery Bryant, Lola and Milo
Skelton, great-great grandchildren, Ezekiel and Clayton Doninger,
Isaiah Harvey, Hunter Tapley, Payton, Megan, and Jacob
Moody. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ruth and William (Bill) Bedwell survive, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Newburgh Health Care Staff and Heritage
Hospice for their compassionate and loving care of Mildred.
Friends and family are all welcome to visit Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland
City, Indiana on Friday, May, 23, 2014. Family from 4:00 to 5:00, friends from
5:00 to 8:00 pm.
Visitation on Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 10:00 am until service time at the
Mackey Salem United Methodist Church. The service at 11:00 am will be led by
Pastor Matt Malin. Burial will follow at the Albright
Cemetery, East of Mackey, Indiana.
