John F. Scherb, 68, of
Princeton passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
He was born on June 25, 1945 in Clay County to Henry
and Hester Edna (Chambers) Scherb.
He retired at age 55 from Public Service Indiana
where he worked as a Unit Operator for 32 years and was the chairman of the PSI
Union. He was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene. He was also an
active member of the Staunton Alumni Association and the Antique Tractor Club
where he enjoyed showing his Ford 8N tractor. He was a substitute teacher at
various schools in the area. John loved providing popcorn, cotton candy, and
snow cones to children in our local schools and churches. He was affectionately
called “The Candy Man”.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Joetta (Borders) Scherb of
Princeton; daughter, Karen Lynn Sharpe of Terre Haute; stepdaughter, Shannon
(Joe) Rodgers Drafahl of Evansville; four
grandchildren, Chris Scherb, Kristen Brown, Christina
Sharpe and Emma Jo Drafahl; a great grandson, Alex;
two brothers, George E. Scherb of Center Point and
Ronald L. Scherb of Brazil; a sister, Margaret
Silvers Sanders of Brazil; several nieces, nephews, and two aunts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother
Henry A. Scherb and nephew Scott A. Silvers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May
12, 2014 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by Rev. Andrew Johnson
and Rev. Gary Arnold. Burial will be at the Summit Lawn Cemetery in Brazil.
Family and friends will meet at 3 p.m. Eastern Time at the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at the
funeral home.
