John C. Stewart, 87, of Oakland City passed away on
Sunday April 27, 2014 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center
in Evansville.
He was born on December 15, 1926 in Mackey, IN to
Admiral and Myrtle (Cooper) Stewart.
He lived in Evansville, then Petersburg and finally
moved to Oakland City for the last 20 years of his life. He retired after 45
years from Faultless Caster in Evansville. He was a veteran of the United
States Army Signal Corps and served in WWII. He was a member of the VFW Post
1114 in Evansville and the Formans Club. He is also a
member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of Oakland City. He enjoyed
fishing and building projects and loved to work hard and provide for his
family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Evelyn (Kuhlenschmidt)
Stewart of Oakland City; 6 children, Clinton (Peggy) Stewart, Carlene (David)
Robb, Calvin (Trudy) Stewart, Carter (Judy) Stewart, Cathy Ogg
and Curtis Stewart; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Desi,
Dorothy and Lucy; and a brother, Luther.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Corn-Colvin
Funeral Home in Oakland City, officiated by Rev. Douglas Low. Burial will be at
the Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 pm on Thursday at
Corn-Colvin Funeral Home. Military graveside services will be conducted by
retired military veterans.
