Joseph Burnett Foster, departed this life and
entered eternal life with Christ on April 16, 2014 at the age of 89.
Joe, a member of the “Greatest Generation”, was born
in Owensboro, Ky. on May 8, 1924 to parents, John and Lena Foster.
He served his country in the US Army during World
War II and was in the midst of the fighting during the Battle of the Bulge. His
battalion ended the war a few miles from Berlin and was there when the German
army surrendered to the Americans.
Joe married his sweetheart and the love of his life,
Alice Knight on October 29, 1943. Joe and “Al” were blessed with over 70 years
of marriage and with three children, Beth (Dean) Flaris
of Fishers, Bruce of Haubstadt and Matthew (Teresa) of Princeton; five
grandchildren, Nathan Flaris, Stephanie Thacker,
Jason Foster, Joshua Foster and Justin Foster; two step-grandchildren; and
several great grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear sister, Bonita
Duncan of Mount Carmel, Ill. and many loving nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his
brothers, John D. and Tom.
Joe was a carpenter by trade and was retired from
Gibson General Hospital. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church of
Princeton and also attended Bethel Memorial Church with his son and
daughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by
Pastor Kevin Wilson and Pastor Brad Keenan. Burial will be at the Columbia
White Church Cemetery in Princeton.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Friday at the
funeral home. Military graveside services will be conducted by retired
military veterans.
