Eugene W. Elpers, 78, of Haubstadt, IN, passed away on March 2, 2014, in Evansville, IN. 

He was born on September 28, 1935, to the late Frank and Lorine (Wolf) Elpers in Haubstadt, IN.

Gene was a member of the St James Catholic Church, Haubstadt Chamber of Commerce, Knight of St. John in Haubstadt, and St James Men’s Club. Gene and his wife of 52 yrs were owners of the Log Inn in Haubstadt, IN, where Gene was the head of all cooking and operations in the kitchen, where he was in charge of chicken frying. 

Gene is survived by his loving wife Rita (Rettig) Elpers, 3 children Kathy (Mark) Holzmeyer of Haubstadt,IN, Daryl (Franci) Elpers of Haubstadt, IN, Trish Elpers of Haubstadt, IN, 2 siblings Joann Elpers of Haubstadt, IN, Larry Elpers of Evansville, IN, and 6 grandchildren Chase, Lexie, and Cameron Holzmeyer, and Zachary, Garrett, and Madison Elpers.

Visitation for Gene will be Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 1 to 8 p.m. at the Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN. Also in the morning on Monday from 10 a.m. till time of service at the church.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, March 10, 2014, at the St James Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN, at 11 a.m. with Father Kenneth Betz officiating.
