Roger Dean
Townsend, 89, went to be with his Lord on October 11, 2013 at Gibson General
Hospital.
He was born
June 25, 1924 in the Fairview community where he lived and farmed his entire
life.
His
grandfather, E. L. Townsend, helped found and name Fairview Church. He was a 38
year member of the Gideons. He served as an Elder at
the United Presbyterian Church for 42 years, where he and his wife Vivian were
married in 1945. He was one of three founders and a 46 year member of the
Fairview Cemetery Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of
Princeton. His great joys in life were his beloved wife of 68 years, Vivian,
farming and spending time with family and friends. He was very fond of reciting
poetry and telling life stories.
He is
survived by his wife, Vivian; children, Connie Nelson of South Bend and Bob
(Judy) Townsend of Princeton; sister, Dorothy Hadley of Princeton;
grandchildren, Stephanie Scalise, Brett Nelson and
Eric Townsend; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was
preceded in death by parents, Roger and Florence Townsend; infant brother,
Homer Allen Townsend; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Cross, Florence Hill and Hazel Markee and son-in-law, Dr. Stephen L. Nelson.
Funeral
services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at Colvin Funeral Home in
Princeton, with Rev. George Prinzing and Rev. Gary
Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation
will be at Colvin Funeral Home on Sunday, October 13th from 4 until 8 p.m.
