George E.
Poole, 89 formerly of Princeton, passed away Sunday Oct. 20, 2013 at Fox Ridge
Manor Apts. in Vincennes.
He was born
June 14, 1924 in Boston, MA to Peter and Enzia
(Devereux) Poole.
He retired
as a Supervisor from the Department of Transportation for the State of
Connecticut. He had been known as “Grandpa” the flower delivery man, from the
former Broadway House Florist in Princeton.
He was a
U.S. Army W.W.II veteran who participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the
North African offensive. He was a member of the V.F.W.
He is
survived by a granddaughter, Gracie Matteson of Colo.; 5 step-grandchildren,
Donna Zenthoefer, formerly of Princeton and was the
former owner operator of the Broadway House Florist; Don Hayes of Princeton;
John Loeffler of Newburgh, Lance Loeffler
of Princeton, Lee Leoffler of Wisconsin; several step
great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Wallace, Harold, John and Jimmy Poole all of
Colo.; 3 sisters Marjorie Uphold of Colo.; Elaine Crandel
of Maine; Carol Krarr of Conn.; fiancée of his late
son, Jeffrey Poole, Sylvia Sanchez of Wisconsin.
He was
preceded in death his parents, his wife Dorothy Poole on Sept. 17, 2011, son
Jeffrey Poole on Jan. 1, 2011 and a brother Timothy Poole.
Memorial
services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday Nov. 1, 2013 at the Colvin Funeral Home
in Princeton.
Visitation
will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. There will be
military services by Retired Military Veterans at the funeral home.
