Clarence Earl Coleman, 89, of Owensville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Transcendent Healthcare of Owensville.


He was born in Evansville on April 8, 1924, to the late Edward and Rowena Coleman. 

Clarence was a member of the Berean Bible Church where he attended many years with his wife Sissy. Clarence was devoted in his faith and enjoyed studying the bible. He was a member of the Gideons International. He belonged to the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136, was Business Manager and Agent for 19 years. He was very well liked and respected by his fellow members.

Clarence was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp serving in World War II at the Battle of Pelelieu, Guadalcanal and Cape Gloucester.

Surviving Clarence are his wife of 38 years, Sissy (Crowder) Coleman; one daughter, Jane Ann Messex of Huntington Beach, CA; three stepchildren, Donna Jo (Mike) Burkdoll, Brian (Anita) Corne of Newburgh, IN and Jaymie (Phil) Almon of Owensville; 8 grandchildren, Alison (Brian) Bishop, Matthew (Lori) Corne, Sarah Glezen, Lindsay (Adam) Ping, Ryan, Tyler and Lauren Almon and Matthew Messex; 7 great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Asher and Izzy Ping, Gavin and Katelyn Corne, Liam and Stella Bishop; brother, Paul Coleman of Louisville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Dorothy Coleman; brother, Eugene Coleman; sister, Ruth Boekenkroeger; grandson, Joshua Messex.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday September 30, at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville with the Dr. Tony Sistelos and Pastor Floyd Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery with military graveside services being conducted by the American Legion Post 51.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thank you, to the staff at Transcendent for their compassionate care given to both Clarence and Sissy while Clarence was a resident.
