TRI-STATE (WFIE) - A man has now been charged with murder after a body was found near Crossville, IL.

The Gibson County Sheriff has confirmed that 25-year-old Thomas Davidson, of White County, IL, has been charged with murder after authorities located a body near Crossville on Saturday night.

Some law enforcement agencies are indicating this may be connected to the disappearance of 58-year-old Sandra Burkhardt.

Authorities say Burkhardt was last seen leaving Walmart in Princeton around 10:15 Friday night.  The Sheriff's Office says they know Burkhardt made it back to her home at some point after she was last seen because that is where her young grandchild was found, left alone.

The Gibson County Sheriff's Office says Davidson is connected to several crimes across the Tri-State, including Sandra's disappearance.

Authorities say Davidson was detained on Saturday afternoon in connection with burglaries in Warrick and Pike Counties, Sandra's disappearance and a shooting in Posey County.

Officials say the shooting happened early Saturday morning in Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon Police Chief Grant Baloat says the victim narrowly escaped with her life, the bullet grazed her nose, suffering just a cut. Police say the shot was fired at her from inside a car. The shooting victim has not been identified, but authorities say it was not Sandra Burkhardt.

Officials say they think Davidson stole Burkhardt's car, a new model silver Ford Focus, the same car they believe was involved in the Mount Vernon shooting. While driving Sandra's car, officials say Davidson ran into a tree and then stole another vehicle.

The Sheriff's Office says Davidson was found and taken into custody in Pike County, four miles east of Pike Central High School in a wooded area.  They say he was also in possession of a hand gun.

Posey County Prosecutor Travis Clowers says Davidson was questioned last Saturday night. Clowers says Davidson confessed to the shooting outside of Hucks and that he also gave a statement concerning Burkhardt and the body that was found in Illinois.

Davidson has now been booked at the White County Jail on murder charges.

White County Sheriff Doug Maier says an autopsy is taking place Sunday night. They hope to release the cause of death and identity within the next day.
