Helen M. Mercer, 89, formerly of Oakland City, Indiana
passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville,
IN.
She was born February 21, 1924 in Brazil, IN.
She lived in Oakland City since 1956, moving to
Petersburg in 2001. She graduated from Saint Anthony School of Nursing in Terre
Haute, is a life member of Phi Beta Psi sorority, was
a member of the American Legion Post 256 Ladies Aux. in Oakland City, Women of
the Moose in Petersburg. She was a member of the Oakland City First General
Baptist Church where she was a member of the EC Wheatley Missionary Society.
She was an RN at Dr. Peter’s office in Oakland
City for 30 years.
She is survived by daughters Rebecca Kirby of Albany, IN and Sarah (Arnold) Boger of Petersburg, IN; 1 grandson, Jason (Beth) Kirby of
Kenosha, WI; 2 step-granddaughters, Charlotte (Dave) Beck, and Dawn Gaines, all
of Petersburg; 4 great grandchildren, Ian, Alison, James, and Ella Kirby; and 4
step-great-grandchildren, Cole and Kenley Beck, Erica and Connor Gaines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham Mercer in 1999; son-in-law,
A. Ray Kirby, and granddaughter, Shannon Elizabeth Kirby.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday July 22, 2013 at Corn-Colvin
Funeral Home in Oakland City, with Rev. Terryl Almond
officiating.
Burial will be at the Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland
City.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday and
from 9 am until service Monday at the funeral home.
