VINCENNES—James R. Wheatley. 84, passed away at 11 p.m. June 23, 2013 at the New Willow Manor Nursing Home.

James was born on July 9, 1928 in Vincennes the son of Noble and Hazel (Nightengale) Wheatley.

He married Barbara Thais on Nov. 25, 1948 and she preceded him in death March 30, 2008.

Jim worked as a Route Salesman for Colonial Bakery and later Lewis Bakery. He served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. He enjoyed playing euchre, his children and grandchildren and working in his yard. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. Jim was very active in organizing his class reunions. He frequently told his family that the only thing he wanted in his obituary was, “I Lived, I Died.”

Surviving are his son, Robert Wheatley and his wife, Amy of Avon; daughter, Debbie Garcia and her husband, John of Fort Collins, Colo.; son, Bruce Wheatley and his wife Marcia of Princeton; granddaughter, Lori Lynn and her husband Keith of Columbus; granddaughter, Karen Winders and her husband, William of Mt. Washington, Ky.; grandson, John Ridge and his wife Samantha of Indianapolis, IN; grandson Chris Bates and his wife Lynsey of Fort Collins, Colo.; grandson, Brad Bates of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; grandson, Josh Wheatley and his wife Anouska of Chicago, Ill.; granddaughter, Brooke Reed and her husband, Kyle of Princeton; granddaughter, Rachel Smith of Avon; grandson, Alex Smith of Avon; grandson, Jason Garcia and his wife Allison of Fort Collins, Colo.; granddaughter, Dawn Montoya and her husband Dan of Westminster, Colo.; grandson, Travis Garcia of Fort Collins, Colo. and 14 great grandchildren. 

James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and brother, Robert Wheatley and an infant daughter Karin Wheatley

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with the Rev. David Fleck officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit with James family on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
