Mary Imogene “Genie” Van Nielen,
age 86 passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in
Evansville.
She was born May 15, 1927 in Canajoharie, NY
to the late Lemuel and Florence Buddle.
Genie had a nursing diploma from Amsterdam
City Hospital in Amsterdam NY through “The Cadet Corp” organized during WW
II.
She married Nicolas Van Nielen
on March 19, 1949.
She lived from May 1949 to May 1955 in
Norman, Okla. where she worked as a registered nurse. She then moved to
Haubstadt and worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital for several
years.
She was a member of St. Stephen’s Church in
Warrenton.
Genie was preceded by her husband, Nicholas,
in 1994 and two sisters, Gladys Traudt and Evelyn Mettner.
She is survived by one son, Nick III of
Haubstadt, two daughters; Gretchen (Edward) Fleming of Chandler and Katrina
(Roger) Martin of Haubstadt. Five grandchildren; Amy Martin, Eric Martin and
Jon Martin, Nikki Van Nielen and Dominic (Brittney)
Van Nielen.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
Friday, June 28 at Wade Funeral Home in Haubstadt with Rev. Steve Oeth officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday,
June 27 at Wade Funeral Home and again from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at
the funeral home.
