Norbert Edwin Adler, 86, of Haubstadt, IN passed away at River Oaks Health Campus on Monday, June 10, 2013

 

He was born to the late Oscar and Elvera (Riffert) Adler on November 29, 1926 in Haubstadt, IN, and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Margie Martin Adler. 

 

Besides his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother Oscar Adler, Jr., son in-law Howard Kays, daughter in-law, Joanne Adler, and brother in-law Robert Elpers

 

He is survived by 9 children and their spouses, Patricia (Edward) Reinhart of Fort Branch, IN, Thomas (Marilyn) Adler of Bend, OR, David (Linda) Adler of Brownsburg, IN, Joan Kays of Haubstadt, IN, Susan (Ronald) Forney of Evansville, IN, Jeffrey (Cynthia) Adler of Haubstadt, IN, Mary Jo (Patrick) Braun of Newburgh, IN, Barbara (Jeffrey) Spindler of Haubstadt, IN, and Daniel (Lori) Adler of Carmel, IN.  He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.  Norbert is also survived by brothers Charles (Jessie) Adler and Armon (Jan) Adler and sisters Imogene (Ralph) Rexing and Mary Elpers.

 

Norbert graduated from Haubstadt High School in 1944, and faithfully served his country in the Army during World War II.  After graduating from Evansville College, he worked as a medical technologist at St. Mary's Hospital.  He retired from Bristol Myers after more than 30 years working in research.  Norbert was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, IN, and an active member of the Haubstadt Knights of Columbus, Haubstadt American Legion Post #194, and VFW Post #2714.  He enjoyed watching Cardinal's baseball games, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.  Norbert will be fondly remembered for the hours he spent tinkering around the house, where he created new items from aged recycled parts.  He was a credit to his frugal German ancestral roots. 

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Saturday, June 15 at 10:00 A.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  Fathers Tony Ernst and Brian Emmick will be the co-celebrants.  Burial in the church cemetery with military services conducted by VFW Post #2714 and American Legion Post #194 .  

 

Visitation will be on Friday, June 14 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Stodghill Funeral home located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch, IN, and again from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church on Saturday.  A Rosary will be recited by the church parish on Friday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
