Virginia Lee Moore 90, passed
away April 10, 2013 in Glendale California.
She was born in Poseyville.Indiana on July 29, 1922, the 8th of 10 children born to Henry Arthur and Mary
Zimrode (Jaquess) Moore.
She graduated from Owensville High
School in
1940 and shortly thereafter moved to Chicago, where she got her first job as order filler with
Montgomery Wards. In 1943 she joined the Marine Corps, as she said “To free a
man to fight”. In 1950, she applied for NCO Supply School and was one of only three Woman Marines selected to
attend this school. Having earned the rank of Master Sargent,
she left the Corps in 1952 and in 1953 moved to California. Over the years, she held positions with Don Baxter
Laboratories, Pharmaseal Healthcare and American
Medical International. More than anything, she loved her family and friends. In
addition to her brothers and sisters, she was a proud Aunt to 34 Nieces and
Nephews and even more Great Nieces and Nephews. She never missed sending a
birthday card and never left a visit or hung up the phone without saying “I
Love You”.
She is survived by her
brother, Arthur Chase Moore (Ruth) of Glendale and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, 2 brothers, J. Robert and John Moore and 6 sisters, Ruth Moore,
Mary Ella Thompson, Sarah Knierim, Arlene McCandless, Betty Crabtree and Lucille Lowenkamp.

Owensville United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star Golden Fleece Chapter
# 176, Life Member of the Woman Marines Association and the American Legion
Post # 51. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 1, 2013 at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville with Pastor
Robert Kloepping officiating.
Burial will be in Poseyville Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post
# 51.
