Virgil Ray Green, 87, of Oakland City passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City.
Virgil was born on Jan. 14, 1926 in Daylight to Walter & Dolly (Johnson)
Green.
He lived in Oakland City most of his lifetime. He retired from Whirlpool
in 1988 after working there since 1947. He served in the U.S. Army in WW
II as a medic, with the 46th Armored Medical Battalion. Two years ago, he was
awarded the Key to the City of Oakland City. He was an honorary Trustee
of the Greater Grace Apostolic Church in Oakland City.
He is survived by his wife of
66 years, May (Ash) Green of Oakland City; daughter, Tammy (Paul) Twigg of English; son, Darrell (Heather) Green of Oakland
City; seven grandchildren, Tiffaney Saltsgaver, James Blevins, Jared Tyring,
Matt Blevins, Brandon Green, Adam Blevins and Jamie Green; nine great
grandchildren, Austin, Bailey & Cody Saltsgaver, Izzabell & Abigail Tyring,
Jackson Baker, Sylvia Henson, Addison and Alex Blevins; and a sister, Myrtle
McCrary of Winslow.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; brother, John Lawrence Green; and a sister, Alice Howard.
Funeral Services will be held
at 2 p.m. (CST) on Friday, April 26, 2013 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, officiated by Pastor Jason Clark. Burial will
be at the Williams Cemetery in Pike County.
Visitation will be from 4
until 8
p.m. (CST) on Thursday at
Corn-Colvin Funeral Home. Military graveside services will be conducted
by retired military veterans.
