Estelle Marie Ashby, 100, of Princeton passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at Gibson General Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility
in Princeton.
She was born 5 miles east of Oakland City in Pike County on Feb. 1, 1913 to Samuel B and Bessie (Copeland) Barrett.
She and her family left Indiana in 1951 and during those years she lived in Colorado and New Mexico, coming from Roswell, New Mexico back to Princeton in 1990.
She was of the Baptist Faith. Estelle remained bright of mind, reading 2
newspapers daily and staying aware of current events, with art and music as her
hobbies. She attributed her long life to genetics, independent thinking, her
Christian beliefs and her breakfast diet consisting of three eggs, bacon,
tomatoes and toast every morning.
She is survived by her five
children, Delbert Ashby of Annandale, Va., Charles Ashby of Byers, Colo., Gail
Hiller of Locust Grove, Va., Kenneth Ashby of Englewood, Colo
and Jerry Ashby of Morrillton, Ark.; 15
grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; brother, Darvin Barrett of Liberty; sister, Wandalee
Tisdale of Newburgh; and a special niece, Marlene Johnston of Newburgh.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; her husband, Arnold Verne Ashby in 1995; son, Paul Ashby in
December of 2012; two grandsons, two brothers and an infant brother; and an sister.
Funeral Services will be held
at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Rev. Brad Keenan officiating. Burial will be in the New Liberty Cemetery in Coe,
Indiana.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the Colvin Funeral Home.
