Stephen G. McDevitt, 68, of Evansville, died at 1:12 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his residence.

 

The son of James L. and Doris J. (Crecelius) McDevitt, Mr. McDevitt was born in Indianapolis on July 15, 1944, and raised in the Fairview community of Gibson County. He was a 1962 graduate of Francisco High School and a 1965 graduate of Indiana State University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in education.

 

After finishing college, Mr. McDevitt returned to Gibson County and taught for two years at Francisco High School, followed by several years in the field of computer programming. From 1976 until 1989, he taught data processing and computer technology at Lincoln Trail Community College in Robinson, Ill.

 

Beginning in 1989, Mr. McDevitt directed the computer training and development center at Texas Gas Transmission in Owensboro, Ky., a position he held until his retirement in 2001.

 

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Delores J. (Day) McDevitt of Evansville, whom he married July 30, 1966; a daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Kenneth Walter of Chandler; a son, Scott McDevitt of Indianapolis; a son and daughter-in-law, Sean McDevitt and Mariela Moscoso-McDevitt of Newburgh; four grandchildren, Max and McKenna Walter of Chandler, and Julian and Marina McDevitt of Newburgh; a sister, Marsha J. Phillips of Oakland, City; two aunts, Darline Fritz of Princeton, and Margaret Crecelius of Vincennes; and a mother-in-law, Beatrice Lynn of Evansville.

 

A memorial service for Mr. McDevitt will be held at a later date. Colvin Funeral Home, 425 N. Main St., Princeton, Ind., is handling arrangements.
