Mary L. Long, 84, Rochester, passed away at 9:18 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at her residence.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1928 in Twelve Mile, the daughter of A. G. and Sylvia
Viola (Gruwell) Cole.
On September 17,
1946, in Rochester, Indiana, she married Fredrick C. Long. He preceded her in
death on April 15, 2006.
Mrs. Long had worked as a
nurses’ aide at Dukes
Memorial Hospital, Peru, and General Tire in Wabash,
Indiana, during her early years of marriage. She
retired after many years from Hart, Schafner, &
Marx, Rochester, Indiana.
She was a member of the First
Christian Church, Rochester, where she was a member of the Women’s Club. In her
spare time she was a member of the Swinging Dudes Square Dancing club, enjoyed
playing euchre, pinochle, crocheting and knitting, and loved to fish.
Survivors include her
children, Sherry Long and partner Peg Robinson, Naples, Florida, Alex Long,
Rochester, grandchildren, Lindsey Marie Long, Vancouver, Wash., Fredrick C.
Long III, Bloomington, Alicia Jane Long, Vancouver, and Kristopher
Long and fiancé Trivity Mitchell, Rochester, sisters,
Rosanna and husband Bill Ross, Oakland City, Sinda Easterday, Princeton, and brother, Jerry and wife Sigrid
Cole, Marion.
Mrs. Long was preceded in
death by her parents, one son, Thomas Long, four brothers, Charles Cole, James
Cole, David Cole, and Francis Cole, and one sister Alice Keim.
Funeral services will be
conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4,
2013 at Zimmerman Bros.
Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Mike VanHeyningen
officiating.
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until funeral Monday at the funeral home. Burial will
be in the Odd Fellows cemetery, Rochester, Indiana.
