Carol went "Home"
to be with" Our Lord Jesus Christ" on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at
1:20 A.M. in their home of 50 years, located in Fort Branch, Indiana.
Carol was the third child
born to Raymond G. and Elsa G. (Stunkel) Hartig on March 30, 1938, in rural Haubstadt, Indiana, at the home of maternal Grandparents, Carl and Hulda (Klusmeier) Stunkel.
Carol was preceded in death
by her Parents, and her Sister, Erma Rae (Hartig)
Robinson.
Carol is survived by her
Husband: Jerry Roger Garrett of Fort Branch, Indiana, , and two Daughters: Debra Kay (Garrett) Schaefer
(Larry) of Kelso, Tennessee, and Cynthia Gaye (Garrett) Barnard (Irwin) of Warner Robins, Georgia. Carol and Jerry are the proud Grandparents of:
Melissa Kay Schaefer of Houston, Texas, and Melanie Rae Schaefer of Kelso,
Tennessee; and Amber Michelle (Barnard) Redner
(Scott) of Covington, Georgia, and Zachary Raymond Barnard, Kristen Nicole
Barnard, and Joshua Andrew Barnard all of Warner Robins, Georgia. Carol is also
survived by her Brother Raymond Norman Hartig (Nancy) of Fort Branch, Indiana, and a Brother-In-Law Claude Leon Robinson of Conyers, Georgia. Carol has many loving Nieces and Nephews surviving
her.
Carol went to Grade School in
Haubstadt, Indiana, and went to High School in Fort Branch, Indiana. Carol was Salutatorian of her Fort Branch High
School Graduating Class of 1956, and successfully completed some College
Classes at the University of Evansville, in Evansville, Indiana. She started working at Hoosier Cardinal, in Evansville, Indiana, in March of 1956, before graduating from High School
in May of 1956. Carol began her career at Atlas Van Lines World Headquarters, 1212 St. George Road, in Evansville, Indiana, on March 21, 1960, as a settlement clerk and quickly climbed the
corporate ladder holding several positions within the company. In 1986, she was
promoted to Vice President of Revenue Accounting, making her the first woman to
join Atlas' senior management staff. At the time of her retirement on March 29, 2002, Carol was the most senior employee at Atlas (42
years & 8 days of service), and her Revenue Accounting Department, was the
largest department at Atlas Van Lines World Headquarters. Because of Carol's
very high ethical standards and her love of her "Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ", and the love and respect she
had for all the people she worked for (including many of the Atlas Van Line
Agents) and with, Carol was very much loved and respected by all who knew her.
Carol was very proud to be a member of the Atlas Van Lines Team for all of
those many years.
Carol was raised in St.
Stephen's United Church of Christ, in Warrenton, Indiana. Carol and Jerry have been members of Christian Fellowship Church, on Millersburg Road, in Evansville, Indiana, since September 1997, having been baptized there the
winter of 1998, by the Rev. Spencer Downs (Carol) and the Rev. David Niednagel (Jerry). Carol was very active in both of her
churches serving on the St. Stephen's Church Council and as a Sunday School
Teacher; and serving as a Sunday School Teacher, baby sitter in the Church
Nursery, and Greeter at one of the Church entry doors at Christian Fellowship Church. Carol is loved by all of her Family, Friends,
Neighbors, and acquaintances, and is, and will be, greatly missed by all!
Our entire family wants to
thank all of you believers, who prayed for "Jesus Christ" to heal
Carol of this terrible breast/bone cancer disease, and we pray that "Our
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ", blesses, all of
you, for your steadfast love and prayers lifted up on Carol's behalf. We, the
family, want to also thank, all of the doctors and nurses, who have tried their
very best to help Carol fight her cancer, since September 7, 1993; and we, the
family, want to thank the Visiting Nurses, and the VNA Plus Home Care & Hospice
Nurses and Care Givers (Sharon Cross for her devotion to Carol, et al.), ALL,
led by Debbie Nanney, RN.
Funeral services for Carol at The Stodghill Funeral
Home, located on State Highway 168, in Fort Branch, Indiana, are as follows:
visitation on Friday, October 26, 2012, from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. , and 12:00
Noon until funeral service on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 3:00 P.M.
