John Jacob Vickers age 86, of Haubstadt passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the River Oaks in Princeton

 

He was born on May 31, 1926 in Francisco to Joseph & Mary Jane (Lewis) Vickers, both whom precede.

 

He was an equipment operator with the construction division of AMAX Coal Company and was married to Theda Ray “T.R.” who preceded him on August 24, 2006.

 

He also served in the US Army during World War II as a light tank operator and was a former member of both the VFW post #1147 and the American Legion post #25 of Princeton.

 

He is survived by his son, Matt Vickers of Haubstadt, and daughters, Robin (Robert) Vickers-Utley of Princeton, Kimberly (Mark) Vickers-Armstrong of Princeton, and Jenny Roeder of Petersburg.

 

Other survivors include stepsons, Randy (Pamela) Catt of Jasper and Jerry (Carolyn) Catt of Patoka, stepdaughters, Debbie (Boon) Ralph of Reed, Ky., Angie (Ron) Murphy of Princeton, brothers, Larry (Evelyn) Vickers of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Jack Vickers of Francisco and sister Wanda Holder of Wisconsin as well as 25 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by parents, wife, “T.R.,” son, Danny S. Vickers and daughter, Penny Elkins, brothers, Bill Vickers and Louis Vickers and sisters, Kate Willis and Joanne Graves

 

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the General Baptist Church located at 2101 E. Broadway in Princeton with Pastor Brad Keenen officiating.

 

There will be a time of visitation with the family from 5 p.m. until time of service.
