Virginia Lowell Mauck, 94, of Clarksville, Ind., formally of Owensville, Ind., died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Westport Place in Louisville, Ky.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, Lowell and Opha Crawford Mauck; her sister, Mary Mauck Lege; and her brother Theodore Mauck.
Miss Mauck
retired with emeritus status in 1984 from Lilly Library, the Rare Book and
Manuscripts Library of Indiana University. She began work in 1965 as
Assistant Curator of Manuscripts. She received her B.A. from Ball State University in 1940; taught school for a few years in Illinois and Indiana and received her M.A. in history from Indiana University in 1948. In 1955. Miss Mauck returned to school to get her M.A. degree in Library
Science from George Peabody Library School. She served as a librarian at the Detroit, Mich., Public Library from 1955-1964.
Miss Mauck
was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; Eastern Star, Golden Fleece
Chapter; Daughters of the American Revolution; Indiana Historical Society; and
Indiana Library Association.
She is survived by nephew,
Curtis Stanley (Karen) Lege, The Villages, Fla., Connie Mauck (Mike) Murphy, of Goshen,
Ky.: three great-nieces, Michelle Murphy Francesconi, Kimberly Murphy (Don) Vogel, both of Goshen,
Ky., and Spring Lege (Tom) Wegand, of Ottawa,
Ill.; and one great-nephew, Jon Lege,
of Florida. She was blessed to enjoy five great-great-nieces and
two great-great-nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Holders Funeral Home, in Owensville, Ind., burial to follow in Antioch Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1
p.m. until service time Monday.
