James D. “Jim” Coomer, 66, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at his home.
He was born July 17, 1945 in Princeton to Frank and Mildred Coomer,
and was a lifetime resident.
He was a graduate of Princeton High
School and
attended Indiana University. He served six years in the Army National Guard from
1965 – 1971. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post 1147
and American Legion Post 25 all in Princeton. He had
served for the past 22 years on the Princeton City Council and Planning Commission.
He worked for J.C. Penney Co. in Princeton for 21 years, served 4 years with
the Princeton Fire Department, 11 ½ years with Emge/Excel
in Fort Branch and retired after 11 years on July 2, 2010 with Enova Premier.
He enjoyed playing golf, NASCAR and most sports.
Jim is survived by a daughter, Robin (Jason) Young of Princeton; a son, Ryan
(Cara) Coomer of Princeton; 5 grandchildren, Jalyn and Rylin Stough, Paxtyn and Langstyn Young and Ravyn Coomer; a brother, Richard (Susan) Coomer
of Seabrook Island, South Carolina; 3 nieces, Sandy (Barry) Bane, Karen Coomer and Rebecca (Matt) Minkin;
1 nephew, Rick (Kathy) Hickrod.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Eric James Coomer
and a sister, Dixie Hickrod.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m.
Saturday,
May 12, 2012 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, with Father Ronald Zgunda and Father
Bernie Etienne as celebrants. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Princeton.
Visitation will be from 3 – 8 p.m. Friday at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. V.F.W. Post 1147 will provide military rites at the cemetery.
