Kenneth E. Nelson, 87, formerly of Oakland City passed away Monday (19 Mar 2012) at home in Columbus.

He was born Oct. 3, 1924 in Winslow to Robert and Stella (Blackter) Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Sylvester Nelson and wife Mary Lois Nelson.

He was a W.W.II Navy Veteran and member of First Christian Church in Columbus and retired from Bartholomew County School Corporation after several years of teaching. He also taught at Atterbury Job Corp. 

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Joe) Powell in Columbus and Jennifer Nelson of Lake Worth, Fla. Three grandchildren, and five great grand children.

He is also survived by his brothers Sam Nelson of Littleton, Colo., and sister Kathleen Freas of Lebanon, Ohio

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday March 22, 2012 at Montgomery Cemetery with Rev. Ed Ellis officiating. Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
