Marion Cockrum
Blough, 97, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2012, in her home in Oakland City.
She was born August 27, 1914 in Oakland City to James H. and Ada Lee (Burba) Cockrum.
She was a graduate of Oakland City High
School and Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. While at Augustana, Marion studied voice and toured with the Augustana
Choir. After college, Marion spent her career in education teaching music in Washington, Indiana, Greenville, Ohio, Barton Township Schools, and retired from South
Gibson Schools.
She was a lifetime member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, where she served as Minister of Music for 28 years,
and was a 75-year member of the Oakland City Philharmonic Club.
She is survived by her
daughter, Cynthia C. Blough-Retana of Oakland City, her granddaughter, Elizabeth Retana
of Alexandria, Virginia, and her beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by
her husband of 50 years, Eugene Blough, her parents,
and her four sisters, Wilma Fae Cockrum,
Jesse Lee Bourne, Esther Winterrowd and Jennie
Murphy.
Funeral services will be held
at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City. Burial will follow at Montgomery Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9
a.m. until service time on Saturday at the Chapel.
