Dorothy Ann (Atkinson) McClure, 81, of the Franklin
United Methodist Community in Franklin, Indiana passed away Friday, February
24, 2012 at Franciscans St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana.
She was born December 20, 1930 in Oakland City,
Indiana to Elza Earl and Louise (Woodruff) Atkinson.
She married Reverend Edwin McClure on June 10, 1953
in Oakland City; he survives.
She was a graduate of Oakland City High School, the
University of Evansville with a bachelor’s degree in music education, and Indiana
State University with a Master’s Degree in public education. She taught music
in public school, grades K-12, and private flute lessons. She played in
symphony orchestras and directed community choruses. She was a past member of
the Indiana Arts Commission and Plymouth Indiana Arts Commission past member
and chairperson. She was a member of P.E.O., Sigma Alpha Iota, Beta Sigma
Omicron and past member of Tri Kappa, and of the United Methodist choirs and
directing them. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and
led various women’s groups.
Survivors include her husband, Reverend Edwin
McClure of Franklin, Indiana; son Steve McClure (Sue Ellen) of Vincennes,
Indiana; daughter Lisa Faulkenberg (David) of Tell
City, Indiana; sister Margaret “Peg” Edwards (Alva) of Louisville, Kentucky;
grandchildren Abby Altoff (Dan) of Evansville,
Indiana, Gunnar Stiles of Vincennes, Indiana, and Christopher Faulkenberg (Kelli) of Dubois, Indiana; and
great-grandchildren Garrett Faulkenberg and (soon) Brisco Belle Altoff. She was preceded
in death by her parents.
The Reverend Andy Kinsey will conduct a memorial
service Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 1:30 P.M. at Grace United Methodist
Church, 1300 E. Adams Street in Franklin, Indiana with visitation from 1 P.M.
until service time. A fellowship and gathering time will immediately follow the
service in Price Hall at the church.
Burial will be in Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland
City, Indiana.
