Marion W. "Minnie" Woods, 82, of Mount Carmel, Ill. passed away Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2011 at his home with family at his bedside.

 

He was born Nov. 22, 1929, in Mount Carmel, the son of Arthur and Maude (Hocking) Woods.

 

Marion W. Woods married Marjorie L. Davis on May 31, 1950 and she preceded him in death on Sept 26, 2002 at their home.

 

He worked as a junior conservation officer, at the garment factory as a presser, for the New York Central Railroad as a lineman, Mount Carmel Street Superintendant, State of Illinois Dept. of Registration and Education, baliff for the Wabash County Courts, Manager of Twin Rivers Hide-A-Way restaurant and lounge in the 1980s, President of Woods Oil Company 1980 - 1990, and President of Woods Exploration 2007 until present.

Marion W. Woods was a Republican precinct committeeman for 40 years. He was a member and former trustee for the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 3066. Marion was also a past member of the Moose, Elks, VFW Auxiliary and MCHS Sports Boosters. Mr. Woods coached baseball for many years and was a lifelong Mount Carmel Aces, Wabash Valley College Warriors, & St. Louis Cardinals fan.

 

He is survived by his seven children; Robert K. (Linda) Woods of Mt. Carmel, Brenda K. Haywood of Mt. Carmel, Kenneth D. (Perfidia) Woods of Mt. Carmel, Janice M. (Jeff) Sprinkle of Mt. Carmel, Chris A. Woods of Glendale, Ariz., Marlin E. Woods of Evansville, and Venessa L. (Steven) Rafferty of Mt. Carmel; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren due in 2012, one nephew, and one niece.

 

Preceding him in death were his wife, Marjorie, brother, Richard Woods, and sister, Dolice Woods Miller.

 

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at the chapel of Short Funeral Home.

 

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at the chapel of Short Funeral Home with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
