Betty Ann (Swallow) Stilwell, 81, went to a reunion in Paradise with her beloved husband, her Savior, and
baby child on Dec. 10, 2011.
She passed at her home peacefully with the assistance of Vista
Hospice Care, Dr. Darla Grossman, and her family members after a seven month
illness with her heart and strokes.
She was born in Gibson County Indiana, on Nov.
8, 1930, to Arch
and Nina Swallow. She and her husband, Ed Stilwell, married in 1949 and moved
to New
Mexico in the years 1951 to 1968, and then returned to Indiana to live.
She was a nursing assistant at Princeton Hospital 1947 to 1949. She also did some
private-duty sitting with the ill in their homes over the years, but primarily
she was a proud homemaker and mother her entire life.
She also had her own freelance photography business before losing
her sight. She was a proud, long-time volunteer leader with the Girl Scouts.
She was affiliated with both Muren
Church of God and Tower Heights Church of God in Princeton. She and her husband were very active in
the Oakland City Church of God before it closed. She was a church leader, sang
in choir and special songs, youth and Bible school leader. She loved teaching
from the Bible. She enjoyed doing some volunteer work with Special Olympics and
Gibson County Area Rehabilitation Center in her later years.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-laws: Denise and LeRoy Medcalf of Princeton and Mechele and
Michael Singleton of Evansville; five grandchildren and their spouses/significant others:
Brian Medcalf and Misty Dardeen;
Shawn and Sausha Medcalf;
Desiree and Johnathun Harris; Health and Jamie
Singleton; Austin Singleton and Shantel McKee. Seven
great grandchildren; Alyssa Medcalf, Macie Medcalf, Kirra Medcalf, Layla Medcalf, Rylee Singleton, Kayne Harris,
and Adlee Singleton. She also has a great step grandson,
Kalijah Harris, and two children who were already
like great grandchildren to her: Ian and Alexis Dardeen.
She has three surviving sister-in-laws: Kathleen Stilwell of Boonville, Marilous Stilwell of Francisco and June Swallow of Florida. Extended family members are Eric Kriebel, Jason Woodall, Marika
(Bowman) Reynolds, Yvonne Hurt, Colleen and Sarge
Schmidt, Sue and John Rodgers, and Chris Dunlap.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Arch and Nina Swallow; a
brother, Eugene Swallow; an infant son, Eddie Eugene Stilwell; and her husband,
Edward N. Stilwell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Colvin Funeral
Home in Princeton, officiated by Pastor Clint Woolsey of Muren Church of God.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Colvin Funeral Home. Burial will be at Montgomery Cemetery in
Oakland City.
