Helen Imogene Pauley Key died peacefully in
her sleep at Meadowood Health Pavilion on Wednesday, July
13, 2011 surrounded by her
family.
Helen was born in Hazelton, Indiana to Ethelbert and Hazel Viola McClure Pauley. She was
preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Wesley Key, her sister
Marjorie Marie Pauley Conley of Garberville, California and her brother William Raymond Pauley of Chicago, Illinois.
She was educated at Indiana State Teachers
College in Terre Haute, Indiana and received her M.S. in Education from Indiana University in September 1965. She taught fourth grade at Elm Heights in Bloomington for 27 years. Her students remember her as a caring
and loving teacher who stressed the importance of reading, spelling, and math.
She enjoyed gardening and belonged to the Trailing Arbutus Garden Club. Helen
was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma educational honorary, and Pi Lambda Theta.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Indiana. She served on the board at Meadowood
for two years during her nine year residency. Helen enjoyed reading and
traveling. She and her husband had been in all the states, countries in Europe,
and traveled on the QE 2.
She is survived by two daughters: Eva Mae Key Lloyd (Jerry) of Louisville,
Kentucky and Linda Lou Key Underdown ( David ) of
Birmingham Michigan; four grandchildren: Deborah Jane Lloyd Boutwell
(Ken) of Mason, Ohio, Kevin Charles Lloyd (Christine) of Minneapolis, Minnesota
, Amy McClure Underdown of Birmingham, Michigan , and
David Cranmer Underdown of
Birmingham, Michigan; four great grandchildren Jacob Ryan Boutwell
and Julia Katherine Boutwell of Mason, Ohio and
Hampton SeulKee Lloyd and Beckett SeulAh
Lloyd of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and one sister June Pauley Rinsch
of Princeton, Indiana.
Visitation is Monday, July 18th at the First United Methodist Church, corner of 4th and Washington in the Gathering Room at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Mark Fenstermacher
officiating. Entombment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Day Funeral Home in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
