Dale Mains, 89, of Princeton, passed away Monday April 18, 2011 at the home of his son, Bill in Columbus. Ohio.
Dale was born Sept. 19, 1921 in Mt. Carmel, Ill. to Nestor and Clara Mains.
Dale and his wife Polly were married on Nov. 24, 1946. He worked for Mains Greenhouses, a family floral
business in Mt. Carmel before moving to Princeton in 1960. Here, he owned and operated Princeton
Gardens Greenhouses for nearly 30 years. Dale never considered himself retired
and continued to work part-time as needed in a local floral department and
maintained a small greenhouse behind his home in Princeton.
Dale served in the Army Air Corp and served
as a city councilman in Mt. Carmel. He was active in many organizations, including past
exalted ruler for B.P.O.Elks (member for 66 years), a
member of Scottish Rite of Evansville, Princeton Lodge of Masons 321, Shriners International and the American Legion.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth
Johnson of Indianapolis; two sons, Dr. Bill Mains of Columbus, Ohio, Jim and Ellen Mains of St. Louis; son-in-law and
his wife, Mac and Angie Ford of Princeton; and four
grandchildren, Mackenzie Ford of Boston, Christy Ford of Chicago, Jarrod Mains of Hollywood,
Fla. and Tyler Mains of Baltimore.
He was preceded in death by his daughter,
Margaret (Mains) Ford; his wife, Pollyanna Mains, a brother, Donald Mains; and
sister, Olivia Jackson.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev, Jarmon Perkins officiating.
Burial will be in the Archer Cemetery in Princeton.
Visitation will be noon until the service hour on Monday at Colvin Funeral
Home.
