Phillip Ray Sturges Sr., 76, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at home with his family and loved ones surrounding him.

He was born in Princeton and graduated from Princeton High School in 1952. He joined the U.S. Army and served two tours in France where he met and married his soul mate, Renee Michelle Jacquelin Bacquet. He served his country for 12 years. Later Phil worked as a refrigeration technician for Brucken’s and Geo Koch and Sons. He retired as a pipefitter from Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136. Phil was an avid hunter, fisherman and pilot. He was a true patriot and animal lover, especially his buddy, Captain.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Renee; his twin sister, Phyllis (Marvin) Kissel; five children, Cathy (Dennis) Mullins, Phil Jr. (Angie) Sturges, Elisabeth Auth, Steve (Cherie) Sturges; Barry (Diana) Sturges; eight grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Oscar and Captola;  and brothers, Frank and Fred Sturges.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home in Evansville. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday at the funeral home.
