Mr. George Edward Kirk, age 84, of Madison, Ind.,
entered this life on March 8, 1926
in Princeton, Ind.
He was the son of the late Warner and Ethel Hale Kirk. He was raised in Princeton
and was a 1943 graduate of Princeton High
School. He was inducted into the United States
Army serving in the 3028th Air Force Base Unit on March 6, 1944 and rose to the rank of private. He was
honorably discharged on Nov. 3, 1945
from Sheppard Field, Texas
receiving the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory
Medal.
He was united in marriage in 1949 to Maudine
Holman in Princeton, Ind.
This union was blessed with one son and two daughters. He received his masters degree in business from Indiana
University. He later received his
law degree and Ph.D. from West Virginia
University at the age of 52. He
served as Provost for Finance and Administration, and
as Professor of Business Law and Business Management at West
Virginia University
from 1964-1978.
He served in the Administration Dept. at Mississippi
State University
for six years and for 15 years he served as Provost in the Financial Dept. at Wright
State University
in Dayton, Ohio.
George and Maudine spent two years in Santander, Spain
on business development ventures. He retired to Madison
and had resided in downtown for several years and had resided on Fairmount
Drive the past five years.
He enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. He was very proud of his dahlias.
He was awarded the title of "Master Gardener" from Purdue
University. In his spare time he
enjoyed fishing as well. He served as a docent and gardener for Historic
Madison, Inc. He had been a member of the Elks Lodge in West
Virginia and the VFW Post in Indianapolis.
He was a member of the Madison Presbyterian Church in downtown Madison.
George Edward died Sunday, Feb. 20,
2011 at 8:40 a.m. at the
King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Ind.

Holman Kirk of Madison, Ind.; his loving son: Philip Kirk and his wife, Vicki
of Madison, Ind.; his loving daughters: Kristi Truban
and her husband, David of Morgantown, W. Va., Kathi
Elkins and her husband, Randall of Charleston, W. Va.; his grandchildren: Aimee
Truban Henkins; Rachel Truban Twigg; Andrea Elkins; Anna
and Angie Kirk; his great grandchildren: Mia Henkins,
Kai Henkins and Merryn Twigg; his sisters in law: Dorothy Kirk of Williamsburg,
Va., Helen Hendrix of Vincennes, Ind.; several nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warner and Ethel Hale Kirk; his
sister, Eleanor Strickland; his brothers, Maurice and Harold Kirk.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday,
Feb. 24, 2011 at 10 a.m.,
by the Rev. David Young at the Madison Presbyterian Church, 202
Broadway Street in downtown Madison,
Ind. Graveside services will follow in the Walnut
Hills Cemetery
in Petersburg, Ind.
on Thursday at 3 p.m.
VISITATION
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 p.m. - 7
p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325
Demaree Drive in Madison,
Ind. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of the service at the Madison
Presbyterian Church, 202 Broadway Street
in downtown Madison, Ind.
SPECIAL SERVICES
Military salute will be conducted on Thursday at the Madison Presbyterian
Church following the service by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion;
Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Petersburg VFW Post.
