Velcia C. “Velcie” Emmert, 88, passed away
Born
She resided most of her life in Haubstadt. Velcie was a jail matron and deputy sheriff with the Gibson
County Sheriff’s Dept. from 1962 to 1988. She was a 1940 graduate of
Velcie was a
member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Altar
Society, The Legion of Mary, American Legion Auxiliary, Indiana State Police
Association and Indiana Sheriff’s Association. She worked at Chrysler
Corp. in
She was crowned basketball queen in
1940 by team captain and future husband, Roger.
Velcie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Roger,
whom she married on Nov. 24, 1942.; four daughters, Joan of California, Patty
(Jim) of Lexington, Ky., Susan of Evansville, Pam of Murfreesboro, Tenn.;
two sons, Steve (Janie) of Indianapolis, Greg of Haubstadt; two
sisters, Mildred Roethemeier and Maralee
Mossberger both of Haubstadt; one brother, Willard
Lutz of Haubstadt; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one
daughter, Mary Martha; one brother, Bob Lutz; and a son-in-law, Jim Mayes.
