Anita J. White, 80, a life resident of
Patoka, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at Gibson General Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility
in Princeton.
Anita was born Nov. 2, 1930 in Patoka to Hershel and Bernice (Eldridge) Hyneman.
Morris “Bud” Brewer, 70, of Columbus, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at home.
Born May 15, 1940 in Gibson County, he was the son of Brady and Fern Williams Brewer.
Mr. Brewer graduated in 1959 from Oakland City High School then served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Indiana State University, with a master’s degree in education. He
taught for a total of 30 years, two years at Clarksville High School and 28 years at Columbus North High School where he was a vocational auto mechanics
teacher. Under his leadership, many students earned awards in statewide
and national competition, including the 1974 National
Plymouth Troubleshooting Contest Championship.
Mr. Brewer was cited as a state Meritorious
Teacher Service Award winner in 1976. He enjoyed NASCAR and Purdue University basketball, as well as the American West and watching westerns.
Morris was a wonderful caretaker, taking
care of his wife who suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease
for several years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He married Marcia Simmons Nov. 4, 1961. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife; a
son, Jim (Jerilyn) Brewer of Hartsville;
sisters, Mary (John) Goodson of Pendleton, Marilyn “Sue” Arburn
of Winslow; a brother, Donald (Vivory) Brewer of Oakland City; grandchildren, Jessica
Brewer, Jenna Brewer and Jonah Brewer.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; a son, Gary Gene Brewer; and a brother, Ronald Brewer.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Dan Cash officiating.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. until the service hour on Saturday at the funeral
home. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.
