Howard Loyd
“Woody” Woods Sr., 85, of Evansville
and formerly of Princeton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday Jan. 2,
2011 at his home in Evansville.
Woody was born on March 1, 1925 in Princeton to John and Stella (Capps) Woods.
He was a member of the Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton and attended the Bible Center Cathedral of
Evansville. Woody was a WWII veteran and a charter member of the VFW Post
2714. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Patoka Columbia Masonic
Lodge 450 and a member of National Rifle Assoc. (NRA). He was
owner/operator of H. Woods Guns in Princeton after
retiring from Potter & Brumfield/Siemens. Woody was an avid trap shooter,
hunter and sportsman. His kindness, gentle nature and love of all Gods
creation, especially children will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years,
Betty L. (Conklin) Woods of Evansville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard
Jr. (Mayumi) Woods of Boonville, Walter (Karen) Woods of Evansville; a daughter
and son-in-law, Brenda (Bill) Poole of Evansville; seven grandchildren; 17
great grandchildren; two great
great-grandchildren; a niece, Stella (Woods) DeMoss
of Princeton and several members of his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and
a brother, Jewel Woods.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Kevin Wilson and the Rev. Alan Shelby officiating. Burial
will be at the Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton. VFW Post 1147 will conduct military graveside
services.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until the service hour on Thursday at the funeral
home. A Masonic memorial service will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
