Ted D. Goddard, 89, of Somerville, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 after a brief illness at Deaconess Gateway Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
He was born April 5, 1921 in Searcy, Ark.
He traveled to Indiana where he met and married Virginia Bruce on Aug. 29, 1942.
Ted was a World War II veteran serving in
the Army Air Force from 1942-45 as a staff sergeant. Retiring from
Whirlpool Corp. after 30 years of service, he owned and operated Ted’s Chain
Saw Shop for more than 23 years in Somerville. Ted attended McCullough Grove Baptist Church in Oakland City.
Ted is survived by his wife, Virginia of 68
years, Virginia; daughter, Billie (Louis) Wheaton of Oakland City;
sons, Russell (Penny) Goddard of Princeton, Charles (Donna) Goddard of
Crestline, Ohio; brother, Gene Goddard; sister, Bobbie Goddard of Marshall, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents John
and Stella Goddard; brother, Billie John Goddard; daughter, Paulette Nichols
and granddaughter, Jennifer Taylor.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City,
with the Rev. Ken Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Cemetery with military graveside services provided by VFW Post 1147.
Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City.
