Leonard Twigg, 80, of Paris, Ill., passed away at Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Born
Feb. 14, 1929 in Edgar County, Illinois, he was the son of Leonard and Martha (Leitzel) Twigg who farmed in the Brouilletts Creek area.

Leonard graduated from
Paris High School, then joined the Illinois National Guard, H-Company and served in the Korean War. Later, he earned an electronics degree from Coyne Technical Institute in Chicago, Ill. He was in the TV repair business for more than 40 years, first working at Zenith, and then operating a repair business in Paris, Ill. He was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Parish and was active in the CCD, TEC, and Koinonia programs. Additionally, he was a member of Paris, Ill. VFW Post 3601 and had an amateur radio license, K9QKV.

Survivors include daughter, Mary Twigg Lumsdon (Kenneth) of Princeton; three sons, Thomas Twigg of Paris, John (Jolene) Twigg of Clinton, Patrick (Mary Margaret) Twigg of Urbana, Ill.; sister, Barbara Twigg Blagg (Robert) of Charleston, Ill.; sister-in-law, Virginia Melton Fitzgerald of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers-in-law, Steve (Diane) Melton of Paris, Ill., James (Nancy) Melton of Kansas, Ill.; three grandchildren, Sabrina Smith, Matthew Twigg, Makenzie Lumsdon; four great-grandchildren; and a large extended family of many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 49 years, Ruth Melton Twigg; two sons, Charles and Donald; and daughter, Susan.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at
10 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paris, Ill. with Rev. Fr. David Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Paris, Ill.

Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 211 and VFW Post 3601.

 

 

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Stewart and Carroll Funeral Home with a Rosary service to at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
