Herman C. Sollman, 83, of Fort Branch, IN passed away on Tuesday, June 21st, 2005 at the River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton, IN.

 

He was born on November 13th, 1921 in Gibson County, IN to the late George and Hulda (Hasselbrinck) Sollman.

 

Besides his parents, Herman is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Ann Sollman in 1980; and brothers and sisters, George, Edwin, and Walter Sollman, Elizabeth Knir, Marie Kuester, Anna Sollman, Selma Sollman, Lorene Sollman, Norma Warren, and Doris Wildt.

 

Herman attended the Christian Fellowship Church in Evansville. He was a WW II Navy veteran, having served from 1942 until 1945.  He graduated from the University of Evansville with a masters degree and from Peabody College Vanderbilt University with a Masters.  He taught and coached basketball for 6 years at Patoka High School helping Patoka win its 1st and only sectional in 1955.  He taught for 3 years at Fort Branch High School, where he was Assistant Basketball Coach, Head Baseball Coach, and managed little league.  In 1958 he went to Boonville High School where he taught, coached and was Athletic Director until his retirement in 1984.  He also managed American Legion Baseball for 13 years.  He was a member of the VFW in Evansville and the American Legion in Boonville, IN.  He enjoyed working at home, traveling, playing golf, and gardening.  He also enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball.

 

Herman is survived by his 2nd wife, Frances (Dilbeck) Sollman; 2 children and their wives, David and Kelly Sollman of Zionsville, IN, and Dan and Leigh Sollman of Boonville, IN; 2 step children, Diana Pegram of Indianapolis, IN, and Linda Bent of Indianapolis, IN; a brother and sister, Herschel and his wife Maggie Sollman of Fort Branch, IN and Mrs. Hulda Schnautz of Evansville, IN; 3 grandchildren, Rebecca, Michael, and Alex Sollman; 4 step grandchildren, Michael and Steve Pegram, Jane Meyer, and Keri Brown; and 6 step great grandchildren.

 

Services for Herman will be Friday, June 24th, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stodghill Funeral home located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch, Reverend Spencer Downs will officiate, burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville, IN.

 

Friends may call for visitation on Thursday, June 23rd, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted on Friday at the Cemetery
