Carl Gordon Sanders, age 94,
of Owensboro KY, formerly of Fort Branch IN died Sunday, October 2 at
Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on September 19,
1911 to the late Grover and
Maggie Sanders.
A native of Carmi,
IL, he was a retired farmer and a life-long member of
New Liberty United Church of Christ in Cynthiana, IN. He was a 1927 graduate of Carmi High School.
He was predeceased by his
wife of 63 years, Roberta Benham Sanders, who died on
June
22, 2002.
He was an avid fisherman and
gardener, a fan of Indiana University and Kentucky Wesleyan College Basketball and all of
the athletic team at Gibson Southern High School which he followed through the
South Gibson Star-Times. Upon his retirement, he and Roberta traveled
extensively throughout the United States and spent 14 winters in Florida. He was particularly proud of the New Liberty
Neighborhood in which he lived and farmed and was equally proud of his 38 year
business relationship with Emge Meat Packing Company.
Survivors include four sons
and their wives, Keith and Elissa Sanders, Vaughn and
Karen Sanders, Steve and Sally Sanders of Owensboro, KY and Dwight and Jan Sanders of Holland IN; nine
grandchildren, Ryan Sanders of Indianapolis IN, Ashley Sanders of Lexington KY,
Kelly Sanders of Beaufort, SC, Chris Sanders of Elizabethtown, KY, Tiffany
Sanders of Bloomington, IN, Kelsey and Cody Sanders of Holland IN and Robert
and Hillary of Owensboro, KY; a sister-in-law Bertalene
Benham Cook of Owensboro, KY and a brother-in-law Levitt Benham of Portland OR; he is
also survived by 16 nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at the Stodghill Funeral
Home located on Hwy 168 West in Fort Branch, IN, with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Tuesday,
October 4, 2005 and after 9:00 AM Wednesday , October 4, 2005 until service time at 11:00 AM at the Stodghill Funeral
