Daniel R. Meek, 86, of Haubstadt, IN, formally of Fort Branch, IN, passed away on Monday, May 8th, 2006 at the Owensville Manor.

 

He was born to Samuel and Mattie Belle (Daniel) Meek in Teague, Texas on Oct. 5th, 1919.

 

He worked the oil fields with his brother T W George of Mt. Carmel, IL.  Dan was a Pearl Harbor survivor and a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.  Dan was a member of the Mt. Carmel VFW and Mt. Carmel American Legion.  Dan also was a member of the Elks of Mt. Carmel.

 

He is preceded in death by his 1st wife Noeleen (Anderson) Meek in March of 1975; by 5 brothers and 6 sisters; by his 2nd wife of 30 years, Betty R. (Dilbeck) Meek of Haubstadt, IN; 3 step-sons, Dennis R. Foster (Abby) of Brandon, FL, Donald A. Foster (Lisa) of Haubstadt, IN, and Darrel Russelburg (Donna) of Evansville, IN; also surviving are 2 sisters and 1 brother, Jeffie Mae Lee of Austin, TX, Betty Cook of Austin, TX, and John Meek of Odessa, TX; 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

 

Services for Dan will be Friday, May 12th, 2006 at 10:00 A.M., at the Stodghill Funeral Home Located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch, IN, the Reverend Bob Douglas will officiate; burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, IL.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 11th, 2006 at 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. A military graveside service will be conducted by the Mt. Carmel VFW.
