Fort Branch woman dies in accident

MADISONVILLE, Ky.—A shopping trip with a visiting aunt ended in tragedy when a Gibson County, (Ind.) woman lost her life in a one-crash on the Pennyrile Parkway Saturday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police public affairs officer Stu Recke said Becky R. (Bates) Weber was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Hopkins County, Ky. coroner’s office.

Weber was a passenger in a 1999 Saturn driven by her aunt, Jerry Crouch, 74, of St. Albans, W. Va., said a family friend.

Police said the car was northbound on the highway when, for an undetermined reason, it veered into the median and traveled 465 feet before hitting a culvert and becoming airborne and rolling several times before coming to rest on its top. Weber was ejected from the car, said police.

Crouch was taken to Regional Medical Center in Madisonville, where she was in stable condition.

Becky R. Weber

Fort Branch—Becky R. Weber, 40, died on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at 3:40 p.m. in an accident on the Pennyrile Parkway near Mortons Gap, Ky.

She was born in Gibson County on March 26, 1963 and was retired. She lived in Fort Branch for the past two years, coming from Princeton and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Bates in 1969.

Surviving are her mother, Irene Bates of Ft. Branch; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and George Weber of Francisco; sister, Judy Stubblefield of Washington; grandmother, Fern Bates of Oakland City, niece, Dana Dowdell of Evansville; nephews, Matthew Weber of Francisco, Greg Whitten Jr. of Ky. and Michael Hayes of Evansville; and an aunt, Judith Bates Gorman of Michigan City.

Graveside services will be on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus. The Rev. Joel Simpson officiating. Friends may call at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for graveside services on Thursday.
