Melvin Ed Lewis, 82, of Princeton, IN. passed away Wednesday Sept. 27, 2006 at his home in Princeton.

 

He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II and was a member of the VFW post # 1147 where he was a founding member of the military funeral detail. He also was a member of the American Legion Post # 25 and the Masonic Lodge # 231 and Scottish Rite. He retired from the L&N Railroad after 38 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood Railroad Carmen of America. 

He was born in
Princeton, Indiana June 4, 1924 to Ira and Verna McGarrah Lewis.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Howard and Dale Lewis and an infant sister. 

Ed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha (Collins) Lewis; 4 children- Paula (Ross) Thurston of Princeton, Greg (Sue) Lewis of Princeton, Shon (Bill) Perry of Hazleton and Shane (Teresa) Lewis of Princeton. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Monday Oct.2, 2006 at
10 A.M. at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Gary Arnold and Donnie Truelock officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. VFW Post #1147 will provide military graveside rites. 

Visitation will be held Sunday at the Colvin Funeral Home from 4 until
8 p.m.
