Norman D. "Tom" Houghtaling, 77, passed away on Thursday February 7, 2008 at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
Tom has lived in Hazleton since 1952. He was a meat cutter for Emge Packing Company for 43 years and he also was a farmer.
He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the Lawrence Township High
School in
Lawrenceville in 1948. He was one of the founding board members at the White
River-Washington Township Boy’s Baseball League. He managed the Gibson County
Bank Baseball Team for 12 years. He was a former volunteer fireman. He enjoyed
gardening and being with his family.
He was born on January 16, 1931 in Lawrence County, IL to William L. & Bethel K. (Barker) Houghtaling, both deceased. Also preceding him in death
were his 3 sisters, Kathryn Reeves, Norma King and Carol Askren;
and 3 infant brothers.
Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ina (LaMar) Houghtaling of Hazleton; 6 daughters and sons-in-law, Terry
& Travis Nolcox, Nancy & Michael Backes, Arletta Jo & Rick
Robinson, Carol & David Taylor, Patsy Ricketts, and Sandra & David Griesemer; 1 son, William Thomas Houghtaling;
21 grandchildren, Lyle Nolcox, Shelley Manns, Angela Evans, Michelle Goebel, Stephanie Wittmer, Jennifer Meyer, Natalie & Gabriel Hoover, Amy
& April Robinson, Rachel, Melissa & Michael Taylor, David, Andy &
Eliot Graham, Emma & Alex Ricketts, Mamie Kester, Bethel Renfrow, and
Hannah Sparks; 19 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Billie Seed; and 2 brothers,
Randall Houghtaling and George Leighty.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday February 12, 2008 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. David Griesemer and Rev. David
Taylor officiating. Burial will be at the Hazleton Community Cemetery in Hazleton, IN.
Friends may visit from 4
until 8 PM on Monday at the funeral home. VFW Post #1147 will
conduct military graveside services.
