Robert J. Hensley, 80, of Oakland City, passed away at his home Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004

He had retired in 1971 from the Indiana State Police as a Detective 1st Sergeant, after 20 years of service. After his retirement from the state police, he owned and operated Yellow Iron Equipment Co. and Hensley's Homes and Construction. Mr. Hensley was an Army Air Corp. veteran of World War II, serving as a belly gunner on B-24s in
Europe

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Hattie Wilson Hensley; a sister, Marjorie Saylor; and an infant daughter, Caren Lou. 

He is survived by his wife, Nita (Anderson); a daughter, Sue Schwomeyer, of Oakland City; a son, Roger, of Clearwater, Fla; grandchildren, Tami and Dayne Schwomeyer, and Renee and Regan Hensley; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Hicks, of Mt. Carmel, Ill. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home, in Oakland City, with State Police Chaplain, the Rev. John Leffler officiating. Burial will be in the
Montgomery Cemetery, in Oakland City.

 

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
