Cecil H. Gladish,
84, of Oakland City, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005 at Petersburg Healthcare, in Petersburg.
He was born Oct. 6, 1920 in Petersburg.
Mr. Gladish was a stock broker and financial advisor,
who formed his own company, Variable Securities Corp., in Oakland City. He was in the stock business for 50 years before
retiring in 2002. Before entering into stocks and bonds, he sold insurance for
Western Southern Life Insurance Co. in Princeton and Consumer's National Insurance in Evansville. He welded on the LST ships in Evansville during World War II, and at
the Ditney Hill mine after the war. He also opened a
grocery store on Main
Street in Oakland City for a period of years. He graduated from Oxford
Institute of Business Administration in 1950.
Cecil attended Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Oakland City. He was a member of Oakland City Kiwanis Club,
Oakland City Masonic Lodge No. 467, F.&A.M., and
was a 32nd degree mason with the Evansville Hadi
Temple Shrine. He served on the board of directors to Manor Homes Corp, in Crown Point, and he was appointed to the President's Council for Stiffel Nicklaus Brokerage Firm
of St. Louis, Ill. until his retirement. Additionally, he served on the
chairman's council for Keystone Mutual Funds and was on the executive council
for Evergreen Mutual Funds. He served on the Oakland City Country Club Board of
directors. He also served in various capacities with local school boards,
serving as president for the East Gibson School Corp. holding company and
serving as treasurer for the Barton Township holding company.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 56 years Wanda Lea (Clark)
Gladish, of Oakland City.
He was preceded in death by their infant daughter, Sharon Jeanne; his two
brothers, Richard Gladish, of Campbelltown
and Eugene Gladish, of Indianapolis; and his parents, Roy and Georgia Ann (Smith) Gladish, of Winslow.
Cecil's surviving children are Cecile (Gladish) Caldemeyer and her husband John, of Arthur; Camille (Gladish) Aydt and her husband
Jerry, of Newburgh; and Gary Gladish and his wife
Janice, of Lake Winnebago, Mo.
He is survived by 10 grandchildren, Carolyn (Caldemeyer)
Tinsley and her husband Eric; Karen (Caldemeyer)
Street and her husband Joe; Darlene (Aydt) Stevens
and her husband Brian; Jill (Aydt) Carlton and her
husband Mark; Julie (Aydt) Conner and her husband
Jason; Laura (Aydt) Hyatt and her husband Charles;
Rachel Aydt; Christopher Gladish;
Geoffrey Gladish and his wife Robin; and Daniel Gladish.
Cecil is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Kendal Tinsley;
Rowland and Tura
Street; Sara
Woolsey; Blake Stephens; Jarrod Carlton; Whitney Hyatt; and Alison Conner.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Aug.
27, 2005 at Corn-Colvin
Funeral Home, in Oakland City, with the Rev. Douglas Lowe officiating. Burial will
follow at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.
Friends may call at the
funeral home for visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 and from 8 a.m.
until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
