Reverend Renee Ewin Giles, 46, Associate Pastor at St. Andrew United Methodist Church of Plano, Texas, passed away April 25, 2007

Renee had a lifelong love of music. She was an accomplished pianist and clarinetist. Renee performed with the Drums of Indiana drum corps while attending
Indiana State University. She graduated from the University of Houston with a B.S. in Music Education. Renee became the head band director of Pasadena High School of Pasadena, Texas at the age of 25, making her the youngest 5A high school head band director in the state of Texas. Her band performed in the inaugural parade of President George H. W. Bush. 

At St. Andrew UMC, Renee was initially a volunteer in the children's ministries, then became Director of Children's Ministries, specializing in the creation and delivery of children's sermons. She subsequently served as Director of Adult Sunday Schools, and Director of Older Adult Ministries. Renee held her Local Pastor's license and Christian Education certification in The North Texas Annual Conference of the
United Methodist Church. She was pursuing her Master of Divinity at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. 

Renee was a devoted wife of nearly 26 years and loving mother of her two sons. She has been a selfless, compassionate friend, counselor and mentor to friends and family. 

 

Renee was preceded in death by her mother LaVerne Ewin. Survivors include: husband, Kevin and sons, Eric and Nathan both at home; father, Wayne Ewin; brothers, Randy and Ralph all of Oakland City, IN; grandmother, Ruby Ellison of Clarksville, IN, and other loving family members. 


Visitation with the family will be from
5-8pm on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Oakland City Church of the Nazarene, 310 South Jackson St., Oakland City, IN. A memorial service will begin at 7:00 pm. Renee will be buried in a private ceremony. Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City is handling arrangements.  (Burial was in Montgomery Cemetery.)
